Co-captain Zach Bradley had the highlight of
the day with a victory against Cornell

CAMBRIDGE -- The Tufts University men's squash team played a
triple-header on Saturday and came away with two wins. Coach Doug
Eng's Jumbos defeated MIT 8-1 and Boston University 9-0, but lost
to Cornell 8-1. Tufts is now 2-4 overall.
In the first of the triple-header played at MIT and Harvard,
Tufts took on host MIT in an early morning match. MIT was feisty
and took games with good hustle. At #4, Jumbo freshman
Sheldon Taylor (Atlanta, GA) gathered momentum
late and cooled down his opponent with steady pressure to win. At
#8, sophomore Chris Stoj (Vernon, CT) ran into
some problems as his opponent hustled down balls and used a
backcourt drop to take the match.
In the second match at MIT, the Jumbos played Boston University
for the first time. BU had some solid players in the top third and
gave #2 Zach Bradley (Baltimore, MD) and #3
Max Dalury (Glyndon, MD) some problems. However,
the veteran experience of the Tufts co-captains gave them the edge
to win. At #5, sophomore Henry Miller (Philadelphia,
PA) ran into some problems, but pulled out the dramatic
win in five matches with strong backcourt drives.
The team hustled over to Harvard in the afternoon to play Ivy
League powerhouse Cornell. Tufts has not played Cornell in four
years and the Big Red was coming off a narrow loss to Harvard
earlier in the day. The firepower of Cornell was generally
decisive, but at #2 Bradley played a brilliant match with great
speed in court coverage and ball movement. He used volley drops and
boast to apply constant pressure to his opponent and won in four
games. Bradley had match ball at 10-9 in the third, but his
opponent stormed back to take the game. The fourth game was all
Bradley, however.
The busy day was the last action of the first semester for
Tufts. They return for the Amherst Round Robin tournament on
January 23-24.
