MEDFORD -- The #16 Tufts University Jumbos, led by four
three-pointers and 18 points from sophomore Kate Barnosky
(Huntington Station, NY), took care of the #25 Colby
College Mules 72-57 in NESCAC women's basketball action on Friday
night at Cousens Gymnasium.
Tufts built a lead to as many as 12 points in the first half
before the Mules began to find their shooting touch. The Jumbos
took a five-point lead into halftime, 34-29, in spite of shooting
just 33.3 percent (11/33) compared to 59.1 percent (13/22) for
Colby.
Barnosky drilled two three-pointers in each half to pace the
Jumbo offense, while junior Julianne Kowalski (Montville, NJ) kept
Colby in it through the first half with 10 points on a perfect five
for five shooting. Senior Julia Baily (Farmington,
CT) poured in 12 second-half points for Tufts as they
would run away from the Mules, going up by as many as 23. She would
finish with a game-high 20 points on six of 12 shooting.
Tufts would finish at 41.4 percent (24/58) from the field and
only turned the ball over eight times, while Colby struggled with
the ball, committing 17 turnovers. Sophomore Tiffany Kornegay
(Carver, MA) added 12 points and five rebounds for Tufts. For
Colby, senior Alison Cappelloni (Sudbury, MA) finished with eight
points, including two three-point field goals, and six
