AMHERST -- The 19th ranked Tufts University men's squash team
split its matches in round-robin play at Amherst College for the
second day in a row on Sunday. Tufts lost to #16 Saint Lawrence 8-1
and defeated #26 Hobart 7-2, leaving the Jumbo record at 4-6 for
the 2009-10 season.
Junior #1 Alex Gross (Washington, DC) was the
lone winner against Saint Lawrence. He defeated Scott Phillips in
three games, and would later earn a Sunday sweep with a three-game
win over Hobart's Corey Kabot.
Senior Scott Leighton (Summit, NJ) was up 2-0
in his #8 match against Saint Lawrence, but dropped three in a row
to take the loss. He rebounded with a three-game win against
Hobart.
Jumbo seniors John Subranni (Longport, NJ) and
co-captain Max Dalury (Glyndon, MD) both won in
five games against their Hobart opponents. At #2, Subranni took the
fifth game 11-9 to win the match. After losing 16-14 in the fourth
game at #4 to even the score, Dalury won 11-7 in the fifth.
Tufts travels to play at top-ranked Trinity College on Friday
afternoon.
