NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Tufts University men's squash team
advanced to the semi-finals of the Summers Cup at the 2010 College
Squash Association (CSA) Team Championships with a 9-0 victory
against Hamilton College on Friday morning. The Jumbos, seeded
third in the Summers Cup bracket and ranked #19 overall, will face
#2 seed and 18th ranked Amherst College in the semis on Saturday at
noon.
On February 7, Tufts had a 6-3 victory over Hamilton in a
consolation match at the NESCAC Championships. They improved on
that result by three wins on Friday, moving their record to 11-11
overall. Several of the matches were tightly contested against the
#22 Continentals (sixth seed in Summers Cup), but the Jumbos pulled
out all of them.
Jumbos Ben Rind (Rockville, MD) at #4,
Scott Leighton (Summit, NJ) at #7, Henry
Miller (Philadelphia, PA) at #8, and Andrew Kim
(Wayland, MA) at #9 all won in five games. Leighton and
Miller trailed their matches 2-0 and won three straight, while Rind
was down 2-1 before winning, Four-game wins were recorded by senior
John Subranni (Longport, NY) in the second match
and senior Max Dalury (Glyndon, MD) in the fifth
match. Jumbos Alex Gross (Washington, DC),
Zack Bradley (Baltimore, MD), and freshman
Sheldon Taylor (Atlanta, GA) won in straight
games.
Tufts lost 6-3 to Amherst during the NESCAC Tournament on
February 6. The CSA Team Championships are being held at Yale
University.
