JUMBOS RESUME 2010-11 ACTION WITH NESCAC LOSSES AGAINST AMHERST AND HAMILTON

AMHERST - After closing the first semester with three straight wins, the Tufts University men's squash team lost twice in their first action of the second semester on Saturday at Amherst. The host Lord Jeffs defeated Tufts 9-0 and then the Jumbos lost 6-3 against Hamilton.

The #23 Jumbos won the top three matches in the contest against #21 Hamilton. Senior captain Alex Gross (Washington, DC) was an 11-2, 11-8, 11-6 win in the #1 match. Senior Ben Rind (Rockville, MD) came from down 2-0 to win the #2 match in five. He won the decisive fifth game by a 13-11 final. Junior Hank Miller (Philadelphia, PA) had a 12-10 victory in the fourth game to take his #3 match. Freshman Tesfa Hailu (Boston, MA) lost the #6 match in five games, winning 11-8 in the fourth to tie it 2-2.

Against #19 Amherst, Gross lost in five after leading 2-1 and then losing the fourth and fifth games by identical 12-10 scores. Miller had a 15-13 victory in the second game at #3 before losing in four. Rind scored 30 points during his three-game loss in the second spot.

Tufts will travel to Yale tomorrow to play matches against George Washington and Saint Lawrence.
