MCCLURE'S HOT HAND AND DEFENSIVE EFFORT LEAD JUMBOS TO CONVINCING WIN OVER CAMELS

Sophomore Bre Dufault made five of seven shots and scored 14 points

MEDFORD -- First year Caitlin McClure (Arlington, VA) tallied 14 points off the bench to lead the Tufts University Jumbos to a convincing triumph, 64-32, over the Camels of Connecticut College in NESCAC women's basketball action on Friday evening at Cousens Gym.

The Camels led early, 6-0, but from that point on the Jumbos allowed Connecticut College to score just one field goal over the final 17 minutes of the half. Tufts scored 23 straight points during a run that lasted over 10 minutes.

McClure was a perfect four of four from the floor in the first half, while senior Vanessa Miller (Cincinnati, OH) scored 10 first-half points.

Tufts forced 17 Connecticut College turnovers in the first 20 minutes which led to 18 points. The Jumbos shot 42.4 percent (14/33) to jump out to a 32-10 halftime advantage. Tufts also grabbed 10 offensive rebounds during the first stanza.

The Jumbos pushed their lead to as many 40 points in the second half, 58-18, with 5:35 left to play.

Sophomore Bre Dufault (Hampden, MA) scored 10 points in the second half to finish in a three-way tie for the game-high at 14 with both McClure and Miller. Miller stuffed the stat sheet for the Jumbos, as she added seven boards, four assists and seven steals.

Tufts played without junior Kate Barnosky (Huntington Station, NY) and senior Colleen Hart (Needham, MA), who missed her third consecutive contest. The Jumbos finished the game with 22 offensive rebounds while committing just 11 turnovers and forcing a total of 28. The Camels finished the game shooting at 25 percent (11/44).

Connecticut College was led by the eight points of senior Tori Verrengia (Plymouth, MA) on three of eight shooting, including two of four from three-point range.  Sophomore Jeanna Dunleavy (Chatham, NJ) added seven points and four boards for the Camels.

Tufts is now 3-2 in the NESCAC and 14-3 overall, while the Camels remain winless in conference at 0-5 and stand 7-12 overall.

The Jumbos will host Wesleyan University at 4 pm tomorrow afternoon at Cousens Gym. Connecticut College stays on the road and battles Bates at 4 pm.
