JUMBO MEN'S SOCCER AND CONNECTICUT COLLEGE BATTLE TO 0-0 NESCAC DRAW

Tufts junior John Lewis had one of the better chances of the day

SOMERVILLE - The Tufts University Jumbos and the Connecticut College Camels worked to a hard-fought 0-0 double-overtime draw in NESCAC men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Kraft Field.

Scoring opportunities were few and far between for each side as defense ruled the match. There were only a total of five shots on goal (3-2 Tufts) with the keepers stopping all of them. None of the saves came in the first 45 minutes of action.

Connecticut College held the shots-attempted advantage at the half 4-3, but Tufts finished the match out-shooting the Camels 10-8.

The best chance for Tufts came in the second half when junior John Lewis (East Greenwich, RI) received a pass deep in the box, tapping it from his left to his right foot, but his ensuing shot went high.

Tufts senior keeper Alan Bernstein (Wayne, NJ) had to make a diving stop on a second-half shot attempt from Camels junior Graham Christiensen (Darien, CT) that looked destined for the back of the net.

The other Connecticut College shot on net came from sophomore Ryland Hormel (San Francisco, CA). Hormel finished the day with a total of three shots as did senior Mike Crosby (Sudbury, MA).

Freshman Gus Santos (Framingham, MA) had some chances for the Jumbos, totaling four shots (two on goal).

Both keepers - Connecticut College sophomore Casey Marini (Hampden, MA) and Bernstein - went the full 110 minutes. Marini made three saves, including a pair in the overtime periods while Bernstein stopped two. Both of Bernstein's saves were in the second half.

The Camels earned six corner kicks on the afternoon compared to just one for the Jumbos.

Tufts is now 4-2-2 overall on the season and 2-2-2 in the NESCAC. They will host UMass-Dartmouth at Kraft Field on Tuesday at 4 pm. This was Connecticut College's first tie of the season as they are now 6-3-1 (3-3-1 NESCAC). The Camels are off until Saturday when they play host to NESCAC foe Bates at 1:30 pm.
