CAMBRIDGE - The Tufts men's squash team completed its opening weekend with a 2-2 record after splitting matches against Stanford and Vermont on Sunday at Harvard. The Jumbos lost a close 5-4 match over Stanford before shutting out Vermont.
Four Jumbos won both of their matches on Sunday. Freshman #1 Alex Nalle (Philadelphia, PA) won in four against Standford's Christopher Baldock after losing the first game. Nalle then allowed just 16 points to his Vermont opponent in a three-game win. At #2, Jumbo freshman Zach Schweitzer (Huntingdon Valley, PA) was down 2-0 against Stanford's Tyler Strand and rallied to win the match in five. He was a dominant 11-3 winner in the decisive fifth game. Schweitzer also rolled in his Vermont match.
Freshmen Gordon Silverman (Phoenix, AZ) and Hugo Meggitt (Princeton, NJ) continued their strong collegiate starts. Silverman won a competitive three-game match at #6 against Stanford, then moved up to #4 and won easily against Vermont. Meggitt had 11-3 wins in the third and fourth games to defeat Stanford's Derek Rowley, and also moved up and won without a problem at #5 against Vermont.
Sophomore Jeremy Ho (Reston, VA) played a very good #4 match against Standford, losing to Paul Lee 11-7, 8-11, 11-9, 11-9. Tufts sophomore Ben Briggs (Sherborn, MA) lost just five points in his #7 match against Vermont.
