POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Tufts men's squash team improved to 4-2 for the 2011-12 season with two 9-0 victories against Vassar and Bard on Friday. Both matches were played at Vassar.
The Jumbos, ranked 27th in the first Dunlop Men's College Squash Team Rankings, took care of business like they should have against #42 Vassar and #52 Bard.
Freshman #1 Alex Nalle (Philadelphia, PA) and senior captain Henry Miller (Philadelphia, PA) at #3 both won their Vassar matches in four games after taking 2-0 lead. The rest of the Tufts line-up won rather easily, especially freshman Zach Schweitzer (Huntingdon Valley, PA) allowing just six points in the second match. Freshman Elliot Kardon (Weston, MA) did the same in the eighth match.
The Bard match was practically an exhibition, as the Jumbos' opponent could not fill the sixth through ninth spots in their line-up and Tufts won each by default. In the five actual matches that were contested, sophomore Ben Briggs (Sherborn, MA) won most decisively for the Jumbos by 11-1 scores in all three games. Nalle, Schweitzer and Kardon all went 2-0 for the day with easy wins over Bard.
The Jumbos play at 34th ranked MIT on Wednesday to finish their first-semester matches.
