POUGHKEEPSIE, NY - The Tufts men's squash team finished the 2010-11 regular season with a pair of 9-0 victories on Sunday in matches played at Vassar College. The Jumbos shut out both the host Brewers and Bard College to improve their record to 7-15.
Against Vassar, Tufts won eight of the nine matches in straight games. Freshman Tesfa Hailu (Boston, MA) allowed just 11 points during his win at #6, including an 11-1 final in the middle game. Classmate Ben Briggs (Sherborn, MA) had an 11-1 win in the third game at #8 and let up just 13 points overall. Junior Luke Metcalf (South Pomfret, VT) and freshman Jeremy Ho (Reston, VA) both surrendered 15 points during their victories at #9 and #5, respectively.
Bard lost by default in three matches, adding to the ease of Tufts' win in the second match of the day. Ho dominated again, winning the fourth match 11-3, 11-3 and 11-2. Senior captain Alex Gross (Washington, DC) had a three-game win in the top match.
Coach Doug Eng's Jumbos are now idle until February 25-27 when they play at the College Squash Association Team Championships hosted by Harvard.
