CAMBRIDGE - The Tufts University men's squash team advanced past Colgate, 7-2, in the first round of the Conroy Cup division of the 2011 College Squash Association Team Championships on Friday at Harvard University.
The Jumbos (8-15), seeded 27th overall at the team championships and third in the Conroy division, will face face 26th seed Connecticut College in the Conroy semi-finals on Saturday at 4:30 pm. Colgate, seeded 30th, will play Northwestern in the consolation bracket.
Tufts earned solid wins in the top two spots of the order against Colgate, with senior captain Alex Gross (Washington, DC) and senior Ben Rind (Rockville, MD) both winning in three games. Three-game wins were also added by freshman #5 Michael Abboud (Bronxville, NY), who allowed just 10 points, and freshman #7 Tesfa Hailu (Boston, MA).
Senior Andrew Kim (Wayland, MA) won the fourth match in four games, as did freshman Jeremy Ho (Reston, VA) in the #6 match. Freshman Ben Briggs (Sherborn, MA) broke a 1-1 tie to win the ninth match in four games.
The Jumbos have won four matches in a row.
