HANOVER, NH - Senior Alex Gross (Washington, DC) of the Tufts University men's squash team was in action at the 2011 College Squash Association (CSA) Individual Championships hosted by Dartmouth College over the weekend.
Gross played in the Molloy Division, for players ranked 33rd through 86th in the country. He was the #33 seed in the 64-man bracket and took on familiar rival and #34 seed Carlos Garza from NESCAC's Connecticut College in the first round. Garza prevailed 11-5, 11-5, 11-9.
Dropped into the 32-man first-round consolation bracket, Gross received a bye into the round of 16. There he defeated Jake Harris, a junior player ranked 48th in the bracket, by 11-3, 11-7, 11-4 scores. In the consolation quarterfinals, Gross lost to Penn's Trevor McGuinness (25th seed) 11-3, 11-6, 11-8. That finished Gross's appearance in the tournament.
This is was the fourth straight year that Gross competed in the CSA Individual Championships. During his career, he won seven matches at the tournament featuring the nation's top players.
