Jumbos, Camels Play to 1-1 NESCAC Men's Soccer Draw After Two OT's on Saturday

Box Score
Sopomore Maxime Hoppenot was one of Tufts' top generators of offense

NEW LONDON, CT - Casey Marini (Hampden, MA) made a diving save on Scott Blumenthal's (Simsbury, CT) shot with 1:11 remaining in regulation to help Connecticut College preserve a 1-1 draw against Tufts University in NESCAC action Saturday.

The visiting Jumbos move to 5-1-3 with 3-1-3 record in league action. The host Camels improve their record to 3-2-4 and are 0-2-4 in league play.

Blumenthal had scored earlier in the 62nd minute of action for Tufts with senior Pat Bauer (Portland, OR) earning the assist.

The goal came just 1:16 after the Camels opened the scoring. Colin Patch (Providence, RI) chipped in a corner kick that sailed from left to right through the box off the foot of Doug Garabedian (Salem, MA).

The Camels also had their chances to pull this one out. Kevin Burt (New Canaan, CT) smashed one off the post with 8:40 remaining and Billy Hawkey (Pennington, NJ) collected the rebound, but his blast sailed high.

Marini was aided by the stellar defensive efforts of Zach Punt (West Hartford, CT), who won numerous battles in the trenches.

The Jumbos made another terrific bid to pull out the win in the opening minute of the second overtime. Sophomore Maxime Hoppenot (Princeton, NJ) unloaded for a 20-yard blast from the left side, but Marini was able to make a punch save and the game ended in a draw.

Junior netminder Wyatt Zeller (Sea Ranch Lake, FL) made five stops in the game for Tufts. Marini finished with six stops for the Camels.

Connecticut College will host Middlebury College Sunday for a 2:30 pm NESCAC tilt. The Jumbos will play Suffolk University Wednesday night in a 7:30 pm game to be played at Dilboy Stadium in Somerville.
