MIDDLETOWN, CT - The Tufts men's squash team finished its first semester of action with a 5-4 record after defeating Colgate and losing to the host Cardinals at the Wesleyan Round Robin tournament on Sunday.
Tufts, ranked #29 in the Dunlop poll, defeated #33 Colgate 8-1 before losing by the same score against #23 Wesleyan.
In the Colgate victory, Tufts won a pair of five-game matches in the middle of the order. Sophomore Hugo Meggitt (Princeton, NJ) won the fifth game 11-4 to take a back-and-forth match at #4. Sophomore Gordon Silverman (Phoenix, AZ) came back from a 2-1 deficit to win the fifth match.
The Jumbos had three-game wins in six other matches against Colgate. Sophomore Elliot Kardon (Weston, MA) lost just nine points in his #7 contest. Colgate's only win came in the ninth match, where Stephen Merwin defeated Jumbo sophomore Phil Weiner (Needham, MA) in five.
Sophomore Aditya Advani (New Delhi, India) took the lone victory against Wesleyan, winning the second match with 11-3, 11-8, 11-6 scores. Sophomore co-captain Zach Schweitzer (Huntingdon Valley, PA) and junior co-captain Jeremy Ho (Reston, VA) lost the #1 and #3 matches in four games, respectively.
Tufts will resume its season on January 19 with matches against Connecticut College and Hobart.
