Liz Moynihan fashioned a double-double off the bench for the Jumbos

MEDFORD - The 10th-ranked Tufts women's basketball team scored the game's first 13 points and led by double figures the rest of the way in a 68-42 non-conference victory against UMass Boston on Thursday night at Cousens Gym. The Jumbos are now 8-0.
Tufts had four players score in double digits, led by 13 points from sophomore Hannah Foley (Acton, MA). Junior Liz Moynihan (Storrs, CT) had 11 points and 11 rebounds off the bench for Tufts. UMass Boston, which dropped to 4-2, was led by 10 points and 10 rebounds from first-year Olivia Murphy (Canton, MA).
Kate Barnosky (Huntington Station, NY) scored the game's first seven points for Tufts and then Foley followed with back-to-back three-pointers to give the Jumbos the 13-0 advantage less than four minutes in. They pushed the lead to 20 (29-9) on a pair of free throws by junior Caitlin McClure (Arlington, VA) at the nine-minute mark, and led by as many as 24 in the half.
Barnosky had 11 at the break for the Jumbos, who were up 41-21 at halftime. Sophomore Kirsten Morrison (North Reading, MA) scored eight for UMass Boston in the first 20 minutes.
The Beacons opened the second half with an 8-4 spurt to get within 45-29 on a jumper by first-year Gabriela Cogliano (Saugus, MA) with 15:44 on the clock. Murphy had four points during the first three minutes of the second half. However, the Jumbos responded with a 12-2 stretch that gave them a 57-31 lead and they were up by more than 20 for the remainder of the game.
Barnosky and sophomore center Hayley Kanner (Scarsdale, NY) both had 11 points to complement the Tufts offense. Barnosky added five assists and Kanner blocked five shots. Senior Bre Dufault (Hampden, MA) led the Jumbos with five steals to go with seven rebounds and four points. The Jumbos out-rebounded the Beacons 52-39.
Senior Teresa Pina (Boston, MA) led the Beacons with nine rebounds while scoring six points and adding three assists. Morrison finished with eight points and seven rebounds.
Tufts plays at Bridgewater State on Saturday at 1 pm. The Beacons have a Little East game on that same day and time at Keene State.
