LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ - The Tufts men's squash team will play in the finals of the Conroy Division at the College Squash Association Team National Championships after defeating Georgetown, 5-4, in semi-final play on Saturday afternoon.
The Jumbos, 10-11 overall and winners of four in a row, will face Hobart in the Conroy final. The Conroy Division features teams ranked 25th through 32nd in the nation. Tufts is the top seed in the bracket as the #25 team. Georgetown was ranked 29th. Hobart is the 26th ranked team.
The Jumbos won a fierce battle against Georgetown. The teams split four matches that went five games. In the #8 match, Tufts freshman Elliot Kardon (Weston, MA) was down 2-1 in games before rallying to win. He had won his first game 23-21 before winning the fourth and fifth 11-4 and 11-7. Freshman Gordon Silverman (Phoenix, AZ) also had a five-game win at #6 for Tufts.
Like they were in their opening round match against MIT, the Jumbos were strong at the top of the order. Freshman Zach Schweitzer (Huntingdon Valley, PA) at #1, freshman Alex Nalle (Philadelphia, PA) at #2 and senior captain Henry Miller (Philadelphia, PA) at #3 all won in three games.
Hobart had wins over #31 Colgate, 8-1, and #30 Northeastern, 5-4, to advance to the final, which will be played on Sunday at 9 am.
