Captain Henry Miller lost a hard-fought five-game match against Colby

MIDDLETOWN, CT - The Tufts men's squash team lost two consolation matches at the 2012 New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Men's Squash Championship on Saturday at Wesleyan. Seventh-seed Colby College defeated 11th-seed Tufts, 8-1, and eighth seed Hamilton won 7-2 over the Jumbos.
Tufts freshman Zach Schweitzer (Huntingdon Valley, PA) was undefeated (3-0) during the weekend for Tufts. He had an 11-9, 11-3, 11-5 victory at #2 against Colby's William Sullivan. Versus Hamilton's Martin Bawden, Schweitzer won in four games after losing the first.
The only other Tufts player to win a match on Saturday was freshman #1 Alex Nalle (Philadelphia, PA). He had lost a 14-12, 11-7, 11-8 final to Harry Smith of Colby, but rebounded with a five-game win against Hamilton's Cooper Veysey.
In the Colby match, the Jumbos had one five-game loss and two four-game losses. Senior captain Henry Miller (Philadelphia, PA) led 2-0 at #3 after 11-6 and 11-8 wins in the first two games. However, Colby's Trey Simpson rallied for 12-10, 11-9, 12-10 wins to take the match. Tufts sophomore Jeremy Ho (Reston, VA) won the third game at #5 11-6, but dropped the match 3-1. Freshman Hugo Meggitt (Princeton, NJ) was up 1-0 in the seventh match before dropping the next three.
Against Hamilton, Tufts had a pair of five-game losses in matches in which both players had led. In the fifth match, Ho couldn't hold a 2-0 lead and lost in five. The same thing happened at #9, where freshman Elliot Kardon (Weston, MA) won 11-5 and 11-8 before losing 11-9, 11-1 and 11-3. The tightly contested team match had four other competitions that went four games.
Tufts returns to action on Tuesday night at Brown for a 6:30 pm start.
