Jumbo Men's Soccer Ties Up Trinity 1-1 for Second NESCAC Draw In As Many Days

Box Score
Junior Scott Blumental put four shots on goal for the Jumbos

HARTFORD – Junior captain and back Shaun McGann (West Hartford, CT) scored in the 43rd minute for Trinity, then freshman midfielder Jason Kayne (Deerfield, IL) tallied 14 minutes later for Tufts as the Bantams and Jumbos played to a 1-1 tie through regulation and two overtimes in NESCAC men's soccer action on Sunday.

Trinity moves to 3-1-2 overall and 2-1-2 in the NESCAC, while the Jumbos, ranked No. 3 in New England and No. 22 in the nation, are now 4-0-2 overall and 2-0-2 in the NESCAC with their second stalemate in as many days.

McGann scored from rookie midfielder Josh Leblanc (Manchester, CT) to give Trinity a 1-0 lead.  McGann met LeBlanc's floating cross with a thunderous right-footed volley that beat Tufts junior goalkeeper Wyatt Zeller (Sea Ranch Lakes, FL). Though Zeller was able to parry McGann's shot, the power of the strike was too much and the ball muscled through and into the net.

Kayne evened the score in the 57th minute on an unassisted tally.  He capitalized on a skirmish at the Trinity goal, redirecting a rebounded shot to the far post where it deflected off of a Trinity defender and flew into the net.

In overtime, Bantam sophomore goalie Jason Katz made a game-saving stop on a headed ball in the only close chance of extra time. He was busy during the match, making 12 saves. Zeller had four saves, as Tufts held a 19-7 edge shooting the ball.
