CAMBRIDGE - The Tufts men's squash team but up another good fight on Wednesday night, but eventually ended up falling to MIT, 6-3. The Jumbos took home wins in the numbers one, three and nine positions against the Engineers.
Sophomore Aditya Advani (New Dehli, India) picked up his fourth win of the season in the number one position, beating Nikhil Punwaney in four games, 13-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-8. In five matches so far this year Advani has won at the number one position four times with his only loss coming to Williams.
The Jumbos also received wins from junior Elliot Kardon (Weston, MA) and junior Phil Weiner (Needham, MA). Kardon won in the number three position, easily handling Thomas Cowan, 11-4, 11-6, 11-5. Weiner held down the bottom of the lineup, securing the five game win in the number nine flight, 16-14, 11-9, 7-11, 9-11, 11-6.
The Engineers picked up a win in the second position as freshman Josh Lee (Seoul, Korea) fell, 11-4, 11-4, 11-7. Sophomore Brandon Weiss (Phoenix, MD) was topped in the number four position, while senior Jeremy Arronson (Amherst, MA) fell in the number five position.
Freshman Danny Fischer (Lexington, MA), junior Jamieson Breig (Westport, CT) and rookie Owen Elliott (New York, NY) fell to the their MIT counterparts in the sixth, seventh and eighth positions, respectively.
The Jumbos will now prepare for a busy weekend as they are scheduled to take on Bowdoin, Brown and Bryant on Saturday. The day will begin with a 12:00 pm match against Bowdoin, followed by a 5:00 pm showdown with Brown and a 7:00 pm start time with Bryant.
