NEW HAVEN, CT - Tufts lost a competitive opening match at the 2013 College Squash Association (CSA) Men's National Team Championships against Colby, 6-3, on Friday.
Colby is the top seed in the Conroy (D) Division at the national team championships hosted by Yale. The Mules are the #25 team in the nation overall. Tufts is the eighth and bottom seed in Conroy play this weekend and #32 overall. In addition to winning three matches over Colby, Tufts lost once in five games and another in four games.
Recent All-NESCSAC selection Adita Advani (New Delhi, India) won at the top of the order for the Jumbos, allowing just 25 points to fellow All-Conference second-team pick CJ Smith from Colby. The Jumbos took the top two matches, as sophomore Zach Schweitzer (Huntingdon Valley, PA) was a four-game winner in the second spot.
In the #3 position, Jumbo junior co-captain Jeremy Ho (Reston, VA) went the distance before losing to Colby's Will Hochman in five. Ho trailed 2-0 before winning the third and fourth games 15-13 and 11-9 respectively. Hochman took the match 11-5 in the fifth.
Sophomore Elliot Kardon (Weston, MA) posted the third Tufts victory in the seventh match. He dashed to a 2-0 lead, lost the third game, but clinched the match 12-10 in the fifth.
The loss drops Tufts (7-13) into the loser's bracket, where they will play Haverford in a consolation game on Saturday at 1 pm.
