WALLINGFORD, CT - Tufts defeated Haverford, 9-0, in the consolation semi-finals of the Conroy (D) Division at the College Squash Association Men's National Team Championships on Saturday. The Jumbos advanced to the consolation final on Sunday.
Tufts' victory over Haverford was an upset of sorts. The Jumbos are the #32 team in the nation overall and are seeded eighth in the Conroy bracket. Haverford is 28th nationally and fourth in the division.
The Jumbos won seven of the nine matches in three games. Sophomore Zach Schweitzer (Huntingdon Valley, PA) dominated the #2 match, winning by scores of 11-3, 11-5, 11-3. Freshman Aditya Advani (New Delhi, India) was also a quick winner in the top match, defeating Haverford's Andrew McComas 11-4, 11-3, 11-8.
In the third match, Tufts junior co-captain Jeremy Ho (Reston, VA) lost the first game 11-5 before rallying to a four-game victory. Sophomore Gordon Silverman (Phoenix, AZ) also won in four games at #5, breaking a 1-1 tie with 11-5 and 11-9 wins.
Tufts is 8-13 overall and will face Hobart in the Conroy Division consolation final on Sunday.
