MEDFORD - The Tufts men's squash team earned a 6-3 victory at Northeastern on Tuesday night. The Jumbos are the #30 team and the Huskies are #44 in the recent Dunlop Men's College Squash Team Rankings.
The team score could have gone either way, as three individual matches were decided in five games. Jumbo junior co-captain Jeremy Ho (Reston, VA) came back from down 2-0 to win at #2 in five games. Tufts freshman Brandon Weiss (Phoenix, MD) trailed the fifth match 1-0, then led 2-1 before opponent Baxter Wathen won the fourth game to tie the score. Weiss' 14-12 win in the fifth gave him the match. In the ninth spot, Daniel Hsu from Northeastern won out in five against Tufts sophomore Phil Weiner (Needham, MA), who took the first and fourth games.
Tufts won four of five matches that ended in three games. Junior Ben Briggs (Sherborn, MA) allowed just 11 points in his #8 win. Freshman Aditya Advani (New Delhi, India) took the top match over Dennis Brinkworth 11-4, 11-7, 11-9. Sophomore Elliot Kardon (WEston, MA) lost just seven points as a three-game winner in the sixth match.
The Jumbos were scheduled to compete in a Divison III Individuals Championship at Bowdoin this weekend, but the event was canceled due to the impending snow storm in New England.
