MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The men's squash team opened up their 2014-15 season this weekend by taking on NESCAC rival Wesleyan on Saturday afternoon. The Jumbos were not able to top the Cardinals, falling 9-0.
Sophomore Josh Lee gave his Wesleyan counterpart a good amount of trouble as Lee was able to take the second and third games, but ended up falling 11-7 in the final game. The game scores for that match in the sixth position were, 11-8, 6-11, 8-11, 11-9, 11-7. Also taking his match to five games was senior Hugo Meggitt in the ninth position. Meggit took the first and fourth games from Jason Bradner, and even pushed the third game to extra points, but ended up falling, 8-11, 11-3, 14-12, 8-11, 11-6.
Freshman Sandeep Rishi also played an incredibly close match in the fifth position, falling to Christopher Hart, 12-10, 11-9, 11-13, 11-7. Senior tri-captain Zachary Schweitzer took the first game from Raheem Logan in the second position, but ended up falling 9-11, 11-8, 12-10, 11-9.
Junior tri-captain Aditya Advani took on Guy Davidson in the number one position, but ended up losing, 11-6, 11-7, 11-4. In the number three position, freshman Braden Chiulli faced off with Michael DeLalio, but wasn't able to top the Cardinal, 11-8, 11-6, 11-4. Senior tri-captain Elliot Kardon took the courts in the number four position, but was bested by the Cardinals' Alex Kamisher, 11-8, 11-5, 11-1.
Rookie Alexander Goodrich faced a similar fate in the seventh position, falling to his Wesleyan counterpart, 11-7, 11-4, 11-3. Sophomore Owen Elliott rounded out the line up for the Jumbos in the eight position, but wasn't able to beat his Cardinal opponent.
Wesleyan also took on Middlebury and Bates in Round Robin play. The match against Wesleyan was the only one the Jumbos would play in the Round Robin. They will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to MIT for a 7:00 pm start time.
