BELMONT – Jumbos in the first through fourth positions were able to beat their Connecticut College opponents in the men's squash match on Friday night at the Belmont Hill School. But, it wasn't enough as the Camels won in the fifth through ninth positions, to take the 5-4 win. Two of those five matches the Jumbos didn't win went to five matches but just didn't fall in the Jumbos favor.
Junior tri-captain Aditya Advani picked up the first win for the Jumbos in the first position, easily topping Matthew Lillie, 11-4, 11-6, 11-6. Senior and fellow tri-captain Zachary Schweitzer worked hard in the second position, topping Brian Mullen in five games, 11-8, 9-11 9-11, 12-10, 11-7. Similarly, rookie Sandeep Rishi saw his match in the fourth position go to five games, as he was able to come back and beat Brendan McClintick, 1-11, 11-3, 1-11, 11-8, 11-3. The last Jumbo win came from the third position from freshman Braden Chiulli, who topped Michael Coscarelli, 11-4, 11-7, 11-13, 11-7.
Senior tri-captain Elliot Kardon pushed his match in the number five spot to five games, as he won the first two, but wasn't able to hold on to beat Randy Coplin (6-11, 8-11, 12-10, 11-4, 11-6). Also playing five games but getting edged was classmate Hugo Meggitt in the seventh position to Niccolo Premutico, 11-7, 8-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-6.
Sophomore Owen Elliott scored 28 points over three games but was beaten by Daniel Reisman in the eight position, 11-9, 12-10, 11-9. Freshman Alexander Goodrich took the courts in the sixth position but wasn't able to top John Dunham, falling 11-2, 11-7, 11-5. Similarly, in the ninth position Danny Fischer fell to his Camel counterpart in three games.
The Jumbos will be back in action at Hamilton on Saturday at 2:00 pm and wrap up their weekend on Sunday with a 2:00 pm showdown with Middlebury.
