BOSTON – The Tufts men's squash team received wins in the first through fourth positions, but it wasn't enough as the Jumbos were edged by Northeastern, 5-4, in the semifinals of the E division at the College Squash Associations' Team Championships at Northeastern University Saturday afternoon.
Playing in the number one position, sophomore Aditya Advani (New Dehli, India) won his match against Timothy Dyer, 11-6, 11-7, 11-6. Junior Zach Schweitzer also had few problems in the number two spot, beating his Huskie counterpart, 11-9, 11-7, 11-5.
It took four games in the number three position, but freshman Josh Lee (Seoul, Korea) was able to top Max Kachur, 11-7, 11-8, 6-11, 11-9. Junior Elliot Kardon (Weston, MA) claimed the last win for the Jumbos in the number four position, playing three close matches but beating Stanislav Berenshtein, 11-9, 11-8, 11-9.
In the number five position, sophomore Brandon Weiss (Phoenix, MD) took his match to four games, but wasn't able to top Greg Berson, falling, 11-4, 5-11, 12-10, 11-6. Junior Hugo Megitt (Princeton, NJ) played in the number six spot, but wasn't able to top his Northeastern opponent, 11-7, 11-5, 13-11.
Senior Jeremy Aronson (Amherst, MA) was topped by Baxter Wathen in the number seven position. Playing in the number eight position, freshman Owen Elliott fell to Louie Sitwell. Fellow classmate Daniel Fischer (Lexington, MA) faced a similar fate in the number nine slot, as he fell to his Huskie opponent in three games.
The team will be back in action on Sunday as they take on Denison at 2:30 pm at MIT for third place in the E division. The Jumbos beat the Big Red earlier this year, 6-3.
