Men's Squash Closes Out Season With Win Over Denison in CSA Team Championships

Junior Elliot Kardon picked up a win for the Jumbos against Denison on Sunday


BOSTON – For the second time this season the Tufts men's squash team defeated Denison, 6-3, this time to claim third place in the E division of the College Squash Associations' Team Championships on Sunday at MIT.  The third place finish concluded the Jumbos season.

Junior Zach Schweitzer (Huntingdon Valley, PA) claimed the first win for the Jumbos in the number two position, using four games to defeat Ariel Cohen, 11-6, 12-14, 11-9, 11-8.  In the number three position, freshman Josh Lee (Seoul, Korea) claimed a three game win over Drew Lavine, 11-5, 11-7, 11-9. Playing one of the toughest matches of the day, junior Elliot Kardon (Weston, MA) battled his Big Red opponent to five games, coming out on top, 11-7, 12-10, 5-11, 11-8, 11-7.

Sophomore Brandon Weiss (Phoenix, MD) needed four games but was able to beat Marshall Crane in the number five position, 11-9, 11-8, 8-11, 11-9. Junior Hugo Meggitt (Princeton, NJ) held off a comeback from his Denison counterpart to earn the five game win in the number six position, 11-3, 11-9, 6-11, 7-11, 11-7. Senior Jeremy Aronson (Amherst, MA) picked up the last win for the Jumbos in the number seven position, using four games to down William Peck, 11-3, 11-7, 9-11, 11-4.

Playing in the number one position, sophomore Aditya Advani (New Delhi, India) traded off game wins and took the last game to extra points with his opponent, but ended up falling, 9-11, 11-6, 7-11, 11-9, 12-10. Rookie Danny Fischer (Lexington, MA) also took his match to five games, but wasn't able to top Ben Cole in the number nine position, 11-5, 11-8, 10-12, 10-12, 11-6.  Fellow classmate Owen Elliott (New York, NY) played in the number eight position but wasn't able to beat his Big Red opponent either.

With the win the Jumbos claimed third place in the E division of the tournament.  The men opened up play with a win over Boston University, 7-2, before being edged by Northeastern, 5-4, in the semifinals.  The tournament wrapped up the season for the Jumbos.
