BOSTON, Mass. --  Senior Tyler Voigt netted a hat trick as Tufts scored three power play goals and added a pair of shorthanded tallies to post a 7-4 non-league college ice hockey victory over Suffolk Saturday evening at Steriti Rink.

Markers by Voigt and sophomore Sean Kavanagh (Wilbraham, Mass.) staked the visiting Jumbos (5-6-1) to a 2-0 first period advantage, and after junior Zack Capozza (Spotsylvania, Va.) sliced the host Rams' (8-4-1) deficit in half just 3:45 into the middle stanza, Voigt's power play tally just 2:32 later enabled Tufts to regain a two-goal edge heading into the final 20 minutes of action.

Freshman Luke Miller (Lancaster, Calif.) narrowed Suffolk's deficit to one once again just 1:03 into the final period of play, but three unanswered markers off the sticks of Voigt, Kavanagh and senior Andrew White (Rockland, Mass.) provided Tufts with a four goal cushion heading into the final four minutes of the contest.  The Rams crept to within two on goals by sophomores Brett Lawson (Milford, Mass.) and Justin Selep (Pittsburgh, Pa.) that came 37 seconds apart, but the Jumbos iced their triumph with 38 seconds to play on an empty-net shorthanded tally off the stick of freshman Brian Brown (Pembroke Pines, Fla.).

Kavanagh added a pair of assists to his two goals to finish with four points in the win for Tufts, which also received a pair of helpers from juniors Brian Ouellette (Arlington, Mass.) and Keith Campbell (Newark, Del.) to go with a single assist off the stick of senior Shawn Power (Arlington, Mass.).  Selep finished with a goal and an assist in the setback for Suffolk, which received a pair of assists from junior Tyler Heineman (Randolph, N.J.) as well as single helpers off the sticks of seniors Tim Sprague (Plymouth, Mass.) and Andrew Ball (Brick, N.J.) as well as junior Mike Pantano (Bridgewater, Mass.).

Sophomore Mason Pulde (Lexington, Mass.) picked up the win in goal for Tufts with a 21-save effort, while junior Brandon Smolarek (Chesterfield, Mich.) made 26 stops in the setback for Suffolk as the Jumbos outshot the Rams by a 33-25 margin for the contest.

Suffolk heads to Henniker, N.H. on Tuesday evening to take on New England College in a non-league outing that faces off at 7:00 p.m., while Tufts travels to Clinton, N.Y. next Friday evening to square off with Hamilton in a New England Small College Athletic Conference contest that also faces off at 7:00 p.m.
