LEWISTON, Maine – The Tufts men's squash team opened up their second semester schedule on Tuesday night, but were bested by the #14 ranked Bobcats of Bates, 9-0. The match is the first of a busy week for the team, which includes matches against Haverford and Brandeis.
In the first position, junior Aditya Advani was topped by Ahmed Abdel Khalek, 11-7, 11-6, 11-9. Playing in the second position, freshman Braden Chiulli scored 19 points but was beaten by Nabil Saleem, 11-7, 11-2, 12-10. Classmate Sandeep Rishi took the courts in the third position, but fell to Andy Cannon, 11-5, 11-4, 11-7.
Senior co-captain Elliot Kardon played in the fourth position and scored 23 points, but was bested by Caran Arora, 11-9, 11-6, 11-8. In the fifth position, rookie Alexander Goodrich fell to Jason Shrubb, 11-4, 11-7, 11-5. Playing in the six spot, senior co-captain Hugo Meggitt took on Bates' Carlos Ames, but fell, 11-6, 11-6, 11-3.
Freshman John Patrick played in the seventh position but was beaten by Spencer Burt, 11-6, 11-3, 11-2. Sophomore Owen Elliott fell to Creighton Foulkes in the eighth position, 11-4, 11-5, 11-7. Rounding out the line up for the Jumbos was sophomore Danny Fischer, who was topped by the Bobcat's Anirudh Nambiar, 11-2, 11-6, 11-4.
The Bobcats are now 7-4 this season and will be back in action on Saturday, January 24 when they take on Franklin & Marshall and Middlebury at the Middlebury Round Robin.
The Jumbos move to 2-6 this season and will host Haverford at the Belmont Hill School on Friday, January 16 at 7:00 pm before traveling to Brandeis on Sunday, January 17 at 1:00 pm.
