BELMONT – The #32 Tufts men's squash team got back in the win column on Friday night, blanking visiting #42 Haverford, 9-0, at the Belmont Hill School. Seven of the Jumbos wins came in just three games.
The convincing win is a good one for the Jumbos who opened up their second semester schedule with a loss to #15 Bates on Tuesday.
Junior Aditya Advani took the courts in the one spot, and quickly downed Nathan Vestrich-Shade in three games, 11-6, 11-6, 11-4. Similarly, rookie Braden Chiulli had little problems with his Haverford opponent in the two slot, beating J. Laurenson Ward, 11-2, 11-8, 11-2.
In the third position, senior co-captain Elliot Kardon rebounded after losing the first game to come back and beat Peter Dudley, 6-11, 11-9, 11-6, 11-7. Freshman Sandeep Rishi topped William Greer in the fourth position, 11-5, 11-8, 11-2.
Junior Brandon Weiss played the toughest match of the day in the fifth position, as he dueled with Zachary Cole but won in five games, 11-13, 17-15, 11-5, 11-9. The Jumbos picked up wins in the sixth through ninth positions to sweep the Black Squirrels.
Freshman Alexander Goodrich had little problems with Alexander Egilman in the seventh position, winning 11-3, 11-6, 11-6. Things were very similar in the eighth position as sophomore Owen Elliott topped Benjamin Soloway, 11-7, 11-2, 11-5. Closing out the Jumbos win in the ninth position was rookie John Patrick who beat Alex Snow in three games, 11-7, 11-2, 11-5.
Haverford falls to 5-3 on the season and will take the courts again on Saturday when they take on Northwestern and MIT at MIT.
The Jumbos are now 3-6 and will look to make it two in a row tomorrow when they travel to Waltham to take on Brandeis at 1:00 pm.
