Men's Soccer Falls 1-0 to Bowdoin in NESCAC Tournament

Box Score

SOMERVILLE, Mass. - After drawing Bowdoin as the no. 3 seed in the NESCAC tournament, the Tufts men's soccer team fell 1-0 at home on Saturday to the Polar Bears, knocking them out of single-elimination conference bracket.

Senior Jason Kayne added three shots, including two on goal, on Saturday against Bowdoin

Facing Bowdoin (8-3-4, 4-3-4 NESCAC) for the second time in three days, the Jumbos failed to come back from a 1-0 first half deficit while playing a man down for the final 40-plus minutes of action.

Tufts (9-4-3, 5-3-3 NESCAC) had a solid chance right out of the gate as junior Nathan Majumder had an open look from the top of the box, only to see his shot saved by Polar Bears' goalkeeper Stevie Van Siclen.

Bowdoin got on the board in the 25th minute following a series of events that saw Nabil Odulate nail a close shot from the left side to give the Polar Bears a 1-0 lead. A Bowdoin free kick from thirty yards out was played out of bounds by the Jumbos, leading to a corner kick for the Polar Bears. Ben Citrin relayed the ball into the box where Patrick Kearon was able to pass it from the right post over to Odulate, leading to the lone goal of the match.

Tufts was unable to find the back of the net against Bowdoin for the second straight head-to-head matchup following 110 minutes of action leading to a double overtime tie between these two teams this past Wednesday. Despite taking 13 total shots in the contest, including six in the second half, Van Siclen held the Jumbos scoreless with six saves.

A hinderance to Tufts' opportunities came in the 50th minute when junior Nathan Majumder received his second yellow card of the match, thus finding himself ejected from gameplay leading to the Jumbos playing with only 10 men on the field for a bulk of the second half.

Senior Jason Kayne and junior Kevin Lawson each tallied a pair of shots on goal, while the Polar Bears only managed two total shots over 90 minutes of action.
