BELMONT – The Tufts men's squash team picked up their first two wins of the season, downing Boston University and Bryant on Saturday. The Jumbos got seven wins in each match to win 7-2 against both teams.
Rookies Alan Litman, Aidan Porgest, Imran Trehan, sophomores Alec Goodrich and John Patrick and junior co-captain Danny Fischer all picked up two wins for the Jumbos on Saturday. Also adding wins were freshmen Cameron Ewan and Matt Memmo.
With the wins the Jumbos move to 2-2 on the season. They will have little time to rest as they continue the busy start to their season on Sunday when they host Hamilton, and then on Monday when they face off with Brandeis.
Against Boston University Litman picked up a win in three games in the second spot for the Jumbos. Ewan needed five games in the number three position, but after being down two games he came back and topped Joel Lavoie, 12-14, 9-11, 11-6, 12-10, 13-11. Porges and Trehan both won in three games in the fourth and fifth positions, respectively.
Goodrich played a close game in the sixth position, using five games to top Paulo Da Moura, 13-11, 6-11, 11-7, 9-11, 11-5. In the eighth position, Patrick needed four games to beat Nicholas Carlson, but earned the 12-10, 12-14, 11-8, 11-9 win for the Jumbos. The last Jumbo win came from Fischer in the ninth position, as he needed just three games to win over Ankit Sinha.
In the first position, sophomore Braden Chiulli fell to Marwan Sallam in four games, 11-7, 6-11, 11-8, 11-8. Memmo took the court in the seventh position for the Jumbos, but also fell in four games to his Terrier opponent, 11-7, 5-11, 11-6, 11-9.
Against Bryant, Litman took the courts in the first position and needed four games to top Chase Ruben, 11-6, 3-11, 11-5, 11-6. Porges, Trehan, Goodrich, Memmo, Patrick and Fischer all won for the Jumbos in the third through eighth spots, respectively, and each needed just three games to bring home the win. In the sixth spot, Memmo allowed his Bulldog counterpart just nine points across three games. Patrick took the courts in the seventh position, and in the three game win allowed his Bulldog counterpart just 11 points across the three games.
The Jumbos will be right back in action on Sunday as they host NESCAC-rival Hamilton at 12 pm at Harvard. The Jumbos will wrap up their busy opening weekend on Monday evening when they face off with Brandeis at 8 pm.
