CAMBRIDGE – The No. 27 Tufts men's squash team got wins in the first and the third through seventh positions and they upset No. 25 ranked Hamilton College 6-3 at Harvard on Sunday afternoon. The win was the third of the weekend for the Jumbos, who topped Boston University and Bryant on Saturday.
The Jumbos are now 3-2 this year, after losing to Stanford and the University of Virginia on Friday, but then topping BU and Bryant on Saturday. The men will wrap up a busy opening weekend on Monday when they travel to take on Brandeis at 8 pm.
Senior co-captain Aditya Advani picked up a win for the Jumbos in the first position. After falling in the first game, Advani came back to win three games over Tucker Hamlin for the 9-11, 11-5, 11-8, 11-4 win. In the third position, rookie Alan Litman won in three tightly contested games over Sam Matlick, 11-9, 11-9, 12-10.
In the fourth position, freshman Cameron Ewan played one of the closest matches of the day, needing five games to top Josh Wolpert, 13-11, 8-11, 11-3, 5-11, 11-8. Classmate Aidan Porges picked up a three game in in the fifth position over Jonathan Ruth, winning 11-4, 11-8, 12-10. Sophomore Sandeep Rishi lost the first game in the sixth position, but came back to win three in a row to top Mark Sperry, 8-11, 11-3, 11-9, 11-9. The last win for the Jumbos came in the seventh position, when freshman Imran Trehan needed just three games to top Sumair Khanna, 11-4, 11-7, 11-5.
All three of the Jumbos that lost played very close matches. In the second position sophomore Braden Chiulli fell in four games to Marc Dudzik, 10-12, 11-3, 12-10, 11-6. In the eighth position, classmate Alec Goodrich fell in five games to Scott Casher, 11-6, 4-11, 3-11, 11-6, 11-3. Rounding out the Jumbos line up was freshman Matt Memmo in the ninth position, who fell in five games to James Novick-Smith, 11-7, 11-6, 8-11, 6-11, 13-11.
The Jumbos will be back in action on Monday night when they travel to local rival Brandeis for an 8 pm start time.
