HAVERFORD, Pa. – The Tufts men's squash team took the courts for the first time since before Thanksgiving on Saturday and the No. 26 Jumbos were able to earn a split, topping No. 30 Haverford, 6-3, but falling to No. 29 Dickinson, 6-3.
Six different Jumbos won against Haverford, while three collected wins against Dickinson. Sophomore Alec Goodrich was the lone Jumbo to win in both contests. He picked up a win in the number eight position against Dickinson, and then won in the seventh position against Haverford.
Senior co-captain Aditya Advani picked up a win in the first position against Haverford, as he topped Nathan Vestrich-Shade in three games, 11-6, 11-4, 11-5. Rookie Alan Litman won for the Jumbos in three games over J. Laurenson Ward in the third position, 12-10, 11-6, 11-7. In the fourth position, classmate Cameron Ewan won by the largest margin of the day, picking up a three game win over Yash Singh, with scores of 11-4, 11-3, 11-5.
In the fifth position, freshman Aidan Porges topped Zachary Cole, 11-4, 12-10, 11-5. Classmate Imran Trehan needed four games in the sixth position, but he won over Jonathan Nguyen, 11-5, 7-11, 11-6, 11-6. Goodrich came through with a win in the seventh position, playing one of the closest matches of the day but, topping Alexander Egilman by scores of 10-12, 11-9, 11-9, 6-11, 11-6.
In the second position sophomore Braden Chiulli was able to take his Haverford opponent to five games, but was edged by Peter Dudley, 11-4, 10-12, 11-8, 2-11, 11-6. Freshman Matt Memmo also played a tough five game match in the eighth spot, but fell to Ryan Dukarm, 9-11, 5-11, 11-9, 11-7, 11-5. Rounding out the Jumbos line up was John Patrick in the ninth position, but he fell to Alexander Liu in five games, 13-11, 6-11, 11-7, 8-11, 11-8.
Against Dickinson, freshman Brett Raskopf and Memmo joined Goodrich in picking up wins for the Jumbos. Raskopf won in the seventh position, topping Nicholas Struzenski in four close games, 11-9, 9-11, 11-8, 11-8. Goodrich took the courts against Samuel Portelance in the seventh position and picked up a four game win, 11-1, 8-11, 11-4, 11-7. The last Jumbo win came from Memmo in the nine spot, as he easily topped Josh Wexler-Waite, 11-6, 11-3, 11-3.
All six other Jumbos played at least four games in each position against their Dickinson counterpart. In the first position Advani fell to Abdelrahman, 10-12, 11-0, 11-7, 11-6. Chiulli took the courts in the second position against Brian Hamilton, and won the first game, but ended up falling in four, 5-11, 11-4, 11-2, 11-4. Litman played four games in the third position against Hal Holappa, falling, 11-9, 9-11, 11-1, 11-5.
Ewan faced off with Cory Litman in the fourth position, but wasn't able to top his Dickinson counterpart, 11-5, 9-11, 11-9, 11-3. Aidan Porges won the first game in the fifth position, but wasn't able to top Andrew Strudwick, 9-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-1. Playing in the sixth position, Trehan fell to Harrison Mayo, 11-9, 11-4, 10-12, 11-1.
The Jumbos will be back in action on Sunday, when they travel to take on No. 25 Connecticut College for a 3 pm start time.
