Alec Goodrich was one of six Jumbos to win on Friday against MIT

HARTFORD, Conn. – The Tufts men's squash team opened up play in the College Squash Association's (CSA) Team Championships with a 6-3 win over MIT on Friday.  The Jumbos are playing in the D division for the Conroy cup and will now take on Hamilton on Saturday afternoon in a semifinal match.

Junior tri-captain Aditya Advani took the courts in the first position for the Jumbos and won over Nikhil Punwaney in three games, 12-10, 11-6, 11-3.  The Jumbos received a win in the second position from senior Zachary Schweitzer, who won in three games over Dominic Hansford (11-8, 11-6, 11-6).  In the third position freshman Braden Chiulli Braden had to work a little harder, but topped Jeffery Hu in four games, 11-13, 11-9, 11-6, 14-12.

Classmate Sandeep Rishi also had a tough match in the fourth position, as he was down two games but was able to edge David Bian in five games to win for the Jumbos (7-11, 7-11, 11-6, 11-6, 11-6).  Junior Brandon Weiss only needed three games in the sixth position, but all three were close with Gray Riley (11-8, 11-7, 13-11). The last Jumbo win came in the eighth position from rookie Alec Goodrich as he won over Marina Crowe, 16-14, 11-5, 11-8.

Senior tri-captain Elliot Kardon played in the fifth position for the Jumbos, and saw two of his games go to extra points, but wasn't able to top Baker Brown, 12-10, 12-10, 11-8.  In the seventh position, senior tri-captain Hugo Meggitt took on Thomas Cowan, but fell 11-8, 13-11, 11-6.  Rounding out the Jumbos line up was sophomore Owen Elliott, playing in the ninth position.  Sarah Claire Fay was able to top Elliott, 11-6, 11-7, 11-8.

The Jumbos will now face Hamilton in a semifinal match of the Conroy Cup on Saturday at 1:45 pm.  The Continentals and Jumbos have faced off twice earlier this year.  The Continentals have won both matches, once 6-3, and 9-0 in consolation play of the NESCAC Tournament.
