HARTFORD – The Tufts men's squash team closed out play in the College Squash Association's team championships on Sunday afternoon with a 5-4 loss to Stanford. The Jumbos opened up play in the tournament with a 6-3 win over MIT before falling 6-3 to Hamilton in consolation play.
Play in the CSA Team Championships was the end of the season for the Jumbos. The men finished with a record of 6-15, and a 1-2 record in the D division of the team championships, playing for the Conroy Cup.
Junior tri-captain Aditya Advani took on William MacFarlane in the first position and was able to earn a tough five game win for the Jumbos, 11-6, 9-11, 11-2, 9-11, 11-4. Senior Zachary Schweitzer took the courts in the second position and was able to earn a three game win over Parker Odrich, 12-10, 11-6, 11-8. Playing in the third position, rookie Braden Chuilli came back after losing the first two games to top Raghav Mehrotra in five games 8-11, 10-12, 11-4, 11-8, 11-9. The last win for the Jumbos came in the seventh position, as senior tri-captain Hugo Meggitt also won a hard fought five game match over Vihan Khanna, 9-11, 11-7, 6-11, 11-6, 11-6.
Rookie Sandeep Rishi took on Matthew Stevens in the fourth position and saw two of his four games go to extra points, but the Jumbo wasn't able to top the Carindal falling 18-16, 14-12, 8-11, 11-8. Playing in the eighth position, freshman Alec Goodrich was bested by Matthew Stewart in four games, 11-5, 11-5, 11-13, 11-7.
In the fifth position, senior tri-captain Elliot Kardon fell to Nick Xu in three games (11-7, 11-7, 11-2). Similarly, in the sixth position, junior Brandon Weiss was topped by Samuel Premutico in three games (11-7, 11-9, 11-7). Rounding out the Jumbos line up was sophomore Owen Elliott who lost in three games in the ninth position, 11-9, 11-6, 11-7.
