Majumder's Two Goals Carry Jumbos to 2-0 Win Over Trinity

Box Score

SOMERVILLE, Mass. - Junior Nathan Majumder tallied two goals in the first half to help push the Tufts men's soccer team to a declarative 2-0 victory on Sunday afternoon over Trinity College.

Scott Greenwood recorded the shutout in net for the Jumbos, making two saves in the match.

The Jumbos, having gone 14 straight regular season matches dating back to last season without a loss, took down their fourth NESCAC opponent so far this season after holding the Bantams scoreless over 90 minutes of action.

Sophomore Kevin Halliday had the Tufts offense in motion early, taking a pass from Majumder in the 2nd minute and lining a shot from the top of the box, only to be saved by a jumping Domenic Quade, who played all 90 minutes in net for Trinity.

The Bantams came back with their own attack as Scott Brazina took a Malcolm Joseph pass into the box and came up short on his shot attempt, defended well by the Jumbos' back line.

Majumder's first goal came in the 14th minute off of a long outside pass from the left side. He was able to control the ball through a scramble in the box and come up with his fourth goal of the season. Just under 12 minutes later, Majumder notched his second goal of the game to up the Tufts lead to 2-0.

Trinity's best opportunity to get on the board in the first half came in the 40th minute when Andrew Bruno broke free from his defender and found himself one-on-one with Jumbos goalkeeper Scott Greenwood in the box. Bruno volleyed a shot above Greenwood's head, but a high jump save to tip the ball and redirect it to the side helped keep the shutout in tact.

The second half of the match saw just three total shots between the two teams after Tufts outshot the Bantams 10-3 in the first half. With much of the time spent trying to establish possession, the Jumbos held on to their lead throughout the half to come away with the win.

Tufts returns to action with a non-conference matchup on Saturday, Sept. 26, as they host Brandeis at Kraft Field starting at 2:30 p.m.
