Men's Soccer Handed First Loss by #16 Brandeis, 1-0

Box Score
Jason Kayne took the last shot on the day for the Jumbos, a bicycle kick in the box that sailed just high of the net.

SOMERVILLE, Mass. - The Tufts University Men's Soccer team was handed its first loss of the 2015 season on Saturday, falling 1-0 to no. 16 Brandeis University at home in non-conference play.

The Judges scored their lone goal in the 29th minute as Zach Vieira headed in a pass from the left side off the foot of teammate Patrick Flahive, just over the head of Jumbos goalkeeper Scott Greenwood.

Tufts (5-1) had multiple chances in the first half to get on the board before the Brandeis (7-1) goal, as junior Gaston Becherano had a free kick just blocked in the 12th minute and senior Connor Brown took a light shot in the 20th minute from the top of the box after back-to-back Jumbos corners.

In the second half, senior Jason Kayne made an attempt at a pass from the right side, turning for a bicycle kick that sailed just high of the goal in the 85th minute, resulting in Tufts' final opportunity to tie up the match.

The Jumbos outshot the Judges over the course of the game, 11-4, as both goalies made two saves apiece and Brandeis keeper Ben Woodhouse recorded the shutout.

Tufts takes the field next on Tuesday at Wesleyan, and return for their next home contest on October 10, hosting Middlebury on Tufts' Homecoming Day. Brandeis also plays on Tuesday at Wheaton College in a 4 pm start.
