| Aidian Porges picked up two wins for the Jumbos on Sunday |
BELMONT – Closing out a busy opening weekend the No. 27 Tufts men's squash team topped Bryant, 9-0, and Brandeis, 8-0, to complete a perfect 4-0 opening weekend. The Jumbos beat Boston College on Friday night and then upset Colby on Saturday evening in addition to Sunday's two wins.
With the wins on Sunday the Jumbos move to 4-0 on the season.
The top three spots in the Bryant match were also somewhat close as they needed four games to be decided. In the first position sophomore Alan Litman fell in the first game to Luke Lorenz, but then came back to win in four games, 7-11, 14-12, 11-9, 11-7. In the second position freshman Raghav Kumar used four games to down Chase Ruben, 11-7, 8-11, 11-5 11-3. Freshman Connor Wind took the courts in the third position and beat Juan Rivas in four games, 11-7, 12-10, 9-11, 11-3.
In the fourth through ninth positions the Jumbos would win in three games. Sophomore Aidan Porges beat Richard Appel in the fourth position, 11-5, 11-5, 11-2. Rookie Frank Yandrisevits took on Matthew Lawson in the fifth position and won, 11-7, 11-1, 11-3. In the sixth position, classmate Amun Sahrawat picked up a three game win over Nishchay Wadhwa, 11-4, 11-3, 11-4.
Sophomore Matt Memmo downed Michael Gough in three games in the seventh position, 11-7, 11-6, 11-5. Junior John Patrick faced off with Aditya Nain in the eighth position, and picked up the win, 11-3, 11-0, 11-5. Rounding out the Jumbos lineup was freshman Siddharth Jejurikar, who won over Jaydev Beri, 11-3, 13-11, 11-3.
Against Brandeis the Jumbos won in all eight positions in three games each. Kumar took the courts in the first position and won, 11-6, 11-1, 11-2. Wind was behind him in the No. 2 spot and beat Michael Jiang, 11-6, 11-4, 11-2. In the third position, Porgest won over E K Chung, 11-8, 11-2, 11-0. Yandrisevits took on Dunca Lelear in the fourth position and won, 11-5, 11-3, 11-6.
In the fifth position Sahrawat picked up his second win of the day, 11-9, 11-2, 11-6. Memmo allowed his Brandeis counterpart to score just five points across three games in the sixth position, winning, 11-1, 11-3, 11-1. Patrick took the courts in the seventh position and beat Rohan Lal, 11-3, 11-2, 11-2. Jejurikar faced off with Priyatham Vennapusa in the eighth position and won in three easy games, 11-1, 11-3, 11-2.
The match in the ninth position was not played.
The Jumbos return to action on Sunday, December 3 when they travel to Hamilton to take on the host Continentals and New York University.
