POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. – The No. 27 Tufts men's squash team closed out their first semester with two wins on Sunday afternoon to improve to 7-1 this season. The Jumbos topped Bard and Vassar on Sunday, both by identical 8-1 scores, to close out the weekend with a 3-1 mark.
With the two wins the Jumbos improve to 7-1 on the season. They were a perfect 4-0 to start the season, which matches the best start in over 15 years. The Jumbos were also 4-0 to start the 2012-13 season, which is the best start in program history in at least the last 15 years.
The day began with a 8-1 win over Bard, a match in which the Jumbos win in every position but the eighth. Sophomore Alan Litman won for the Jumbos in the first position, with a big five game win over Rhys Nordstrom (11-4, 9-11, 11-3, 9-11, 11-2). In the second position freshman Raghav Kumar overcame a loss in the first game to beat Ayateru Maeda, 7-11, 11-3, 14-12, 11-9. Junior Braden Chiulli turned in a three-game win in the third position, 11-7, 11-8, 11-3.
In the fourth position sophomore Aidan Porges dealt Pranjal Ghate a three game loss, 11-3, 13-11, 11-5. Turning in a win in the fifth position was freshman Frank Yandrisevits, with a three game win over Abe Etkin, 11-3, 11-2, 11-9. Classmate Amun Sahrawat followed that with a big five game win in the sixth position, 6-11, 11-9, 8-11, 11-2, 11-5. Sophomore Matt Memmo was able to top Satwik Srikrishnan in the seventh position, but two of the three games went to extra points, 15-13, 11-8, 12-10. The last Jumbo win came in the ninth position from freshman Siddharth Jejurikar, as he topped Theo Webb, 11-4, 11-7, 8-11, 11-4.
Following the win over Bard the Jumbos took on the host, Vassar, and topped the Brewers, 8-1. The Jumbos won in the second through ninth positions for their seventh win of the season.
In the second position, sophomore Brett Raskopf picked up a four game win over Viraj Nadkarni, 11-2, 11-13, 11-5, 11-9. Freshman Connor Wind turned in a three game win in which he allowed his opponent just four points across the three games in the third position (11-2, 11-0, 11-2). In the third position, sophomore Imran Trehan easily picked up a win over Samuel Hammer in three games, 11-3, 11-3, 11-6.
Junior Sandeep Rishi was able to win over Richard Bryenton in the fifth position, 11-3, 11-1, 11-3. Yandrisevits picked up his second win of the day with a three game win over Caden Gruber in the sixth position, 11-3, 11-3, 11-1. Sahrawat notched a three game win over Alex Riccio in the seventh position, 11-2, 11-1, 11-5. In the eighth position, Memmo won over Isaac Stuart, 11-4, 11-3, 11-6. The last Jumbo win of the day came form Jejurikar in the ninth position, as he beat Lucas Fifer, 11-5, 11-7, 11-3.
The Jumbos busy weekend wrapped up their first semester schedule. They will now take a break for the holidays and will resume play on January 13 with a trip to Wesleyan to take on the host Cardinals and Haverford.
