MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The No. 25 Tufts men's squash team picked up a 7-2 win over No. 30 Haverford on Friday afternoon. The Jumbos fell to No. 23 Wesleyan earlier in the day which was the first day of competition for the Jumbos during the 2017 semester.
With the win the Jumbos are now 8-2 overall. The loss puts Haverford at 4-3 this season as the Black Squirrels also fell to Wesleyan earlier today.
The Jumbos won in the first six positions against the Black Squirrels. Sophomore Alan picked up a three game win in the first position, but all three games were close with Wallace Miller (11-9, 11-7, 12-10). In the second position sophomore Brett Raskopf needed four games to top Peter Dudley, coming back from an extra point first game loss to pick up the 11-13, 11-6, 11-7, 11-9 win. Freshman Connor Wind allowed his opponent to score just 11 points across three games in the third position, picking up a 11-5, 11-2, 11-4 win over Aaron Horwitz.
In the fourth position junior Sandeep Rishi fell in the first game to Yash Singh, but bounced back and picked up a 13-15, 11-6, 11-6, 11-6 win. Rookie Frank Yandrisevits needed just three games to win in the fifth position over Alexandre Liu, 11-8, 11-1, 11-7. Classmate Amun Sahrawat dueled with Zachary Cole in the sixth position and earned a hard fought five game win, 5-11, 11-7, 10-12, 12-10, 11-6. The last Jumbo win came in the eighth position, as junior John Patrick earned a four game win in which three of the four games when to extra points (15-13, 11-7, 12-14, 13-11).
In the seventh position sophomore Matt Memmo lost a hard fought battle, falling in five games. Similarly in the ninth position freshman Siddharth Jejurikar fell in four games.
The Jumbos will be back in action on Friday when they take on Dickinson at Harvard at 6 pm. The Black Squirrels play again tomorrow with a 12 pm start at Northeastern.
