BELMONT, Mass. – The No. 28 Tufts men's squash team picked up two wins on Sunday afternoon, topping Georgetown, 9-0, and Boston University, 8-1, at the Belmont Hill School.
With the two wins the Jumbos are now 10-4 this season and the wins snapped a streak of back-to-back losses for the Jumbos.
Tufts started the day with a 9-0 win over Georgetown. Five of the Jumbos nine wins came in just three games against the Hoyas. Sophomore Alan Litman played a close four game match in the first position, topping Nicholas Bowe, 11-4, 9-11, 11-6, 12-10. In the second position, junior Braden Chiulli needed just three games to top Philip Tsien, 11-4, 13-11, 11-4. Similarly in the third position freshman Connor Wind beat Mac Williams in three games, 11-5, 11-6, 11-7.
Sophomore Aidan Porges played a close one in the fourth position, beating Armaan Arora in four games with the fourth game going to extra points, 11-8, 7-11, 11-8, 14-12. Junior Sandeep Rishi allowed his Hoya opponent to score just six points across three games in the fifth position, winning 11-1, 11-2, 11-3. In the sixth position freshman Frank Yandrisevits picked up a three game win over Williams Simon, 11-5, 11-4, 11-2.
Freshman Amun Sahrawat fell in the first game in the seventh position, but came back to beat Rory Colburn, 8-11, 11-2, 11-9, 11-2. Sophomore Matt Memmo won in the eighth position, 11-6, 11-4, 11-8, over Gaurav Premnath. Rounding out the Jumbos lineup was junior John Patrick in the ninth position, who won in four games over Matthijs Van Duijl, 11-3, 11-13, 11-6, 11-6.
The Jumbos closed the day with an 8-1 win over Boston University, winning in the second through ninth position in three games in each position. Freshman Raghav Kumar took on Parker Tonissi in the second position and won, 11-8, 12-10, 11-3. In the third spot, sophomore Cameron Ewan beat Joel Lavoie, 11-6, 11-8, 11-2. Sophomore Imran Trehan was able to top Julian Lee in the fourth position, 11-7, 11-9, 11-4.
Yandrisevits picked up his second win of the day in the fifth position, with a 11-3, 11-6, 11-1 win over Matthew Wallace. In the sixth position Sahrawat played the closest match of any Jumbo to win, beating Rauhl Singh, 11-9, 13-11, 11-9. Memmo downed Adam Whitaker in the seventh position, 11-9, 11-9, 11-4. In the eighth position Patrick picked up a win over Pedro Virguez, 11-3, 11-4, 11-5. Rookie Siddharth Jejurikar picked up a win in the ninth position for the Jumbos.
The Jumbos have the week to rest after a busy weekend in which they played four matches in three days. They will be back on the courts on Saturday when they host Connecticut College at the Belmont Hill School for a 2 pm start.
