WATERVILLE, Maine – The No. 28 Tufts men's squash team headed up north for a NESCAC double header on Sunday. The Jumbos fell to No. 22 Colby, 8-1, and No. 16 Bates, 9-0.
With the setbacks the Jumbos are now 11-6 this season. They will have the week to prepare for the NESCAC tournament this weekend
The Jumbos started up in Waterville where they took on the No. 22 ranked Mules. Sophomore Aidan Porges was the lone winner for the Jumbos, as he toped Jason Brodo in four games in the sixth position, 11-6, 5-11, 11-6, 11-8. In the third position freshman Raghav Kumar played a close one with Elliott Gross, splitting games, but the Mule came out on top, 6-11, 11-6, 5-11, 11-3, 11-5. In the fourth position junior Braden Chiulli took Hugh Doherty to four games, 11-7, 11-13, 11-2, 11-2.
Sophomore Alan Litman took the first game to extra points in the first position, but fell, 12-10, 11-5, 11-3. In the second position sophomore Brett Raskopf fell to Patrick McCarthy, 11-4, 11-2, 11-6. Freshman Connor Wind took on William Pepe in the fifth position, but fell in three games. Classmate Frank Yandrisevits fell to Matthew Epstein in the seventh position. Freshman Amun Sahrawat and sophomore Matt Memmo rounded out the Jumbos line up in the eighth and ninth positions, respectively, but both fell to their Mule opponents in three games.
After the match with Colby the Jumbos got back on the bus and headed down to Bates to take on the No. 16 ranked Bobcats. The Bobcats were able to win in all nine positions in three games. Raskopf scored 22 points over three games in the second position. In the fourth position Chiulli scored 17 points across his three games.
The Jumbos will be back in action on Friday when they head to Amherst for the NESCAC Championships to be played Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Seedings will be released this week.
