BELMONT - Fifteen different Jumbos contributed to a pair of 9-0 wins earned by the Tufts University men's squash team versus Bard College and Boston College on Sunday at the Belmont Hill School. Foillowing a pair of losses earlier in the weekend, Tufts evened its record at 2-2.
In Sunday's second match, the 28th ranked Jumbos topped Boston College (1-3) with ease. Only the #1 match went more than three games, where Jumbo junior co-captain Brett Raskopf lost the first game before rallying for an 8-11, 11-1, 11-7, 11-4 victory.
In the #2 match, Tufts freshman Salik Awan worked extra with a 17-15 win in the third game to close out his victory over Boston College's James Stevenson. Tufts freshman Aman Navani had a pair of shutouts in his match at #6 where he dominated 11-0, 11-5, 11-0. Freshman Matt Fielder also had an 11-0 win in his match, taking the third game by that score for victory in the seventh position.
Awan, freshman Aryaman Pandya and sophomore Amun Sahrawat were the three Jumbos who played in both matches. In addition to his win at #2 versus BC, Awan had an 11-3, 11-4, 14-12 victory in the fourth match versus Bard's Vikramaditya Joshi. In the third games of his two matches, Awan played a total of 58 points. Pandya paired a #4 victory in the BC match with a strong 11-2, 11-4, 11-1 win at #8 versus Bard's Hunter Manel. Sahrawat lost just four points against Bard in the ninth position after taking a #5 win earlier in the day against the Eagles.
Tufts defeated the #32 Bard Raptors (5-3) in three games all the way down the line-up. Sophomore Raghav Kumar won the #1 competition by 11-3, 11-8, 11-8 scores over Rhys Nordstrom, while at #2 Tufts' Alan Litman topped Julian Dime 11-6, 11-4, 11-5. Jumbo freshman Daniel Hutt nearly shut out his opponent in the seventh match winning 11-0, 11-0, 11-1.
