Box Score MEDFORD, Mass. – The Tufts University women's basketball team beat Bridgewater State today, 64-44, as senior Melissa Baptista scored her 1,000th career point.

The moment came with 6:23 left in the second quarter with the Jumbos (6-0) up 25-16 over the Bears (1-5). Baptista made a layup to get her to double digit points in the game, and 1,000 in her career. She is the 14th player to join the 1,000-point club in Tufts women's basketball history. The last player to make the exclusive list was Michela North who graduated last year.
Baptista finished the game with 12 points, five rebounds, and two steals. Erica DeCandido led all scorers with 14 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Jac Knapp and Jennie Mucciarone both contributed eight points with two three-pointers each.
The Jumbos shot a combined 50.9% from the floor, which was a season-high. Tufts wrapped up the first half on a Knapp three-pointer to go into the break with a 40-23 lead.
Katie Martensen and DeCandido each had four in the third quarter, while Emily Briggs had four of her six in the fourth. Angela Alibrandi hit a jumper with just 12 seconds left in the game to finish off the scoring for both teams.
The game was part of the Williams College's Holiday Classic. Tufts went 2-0, including a 12-point victory (63-51) or ninth-ranked Rochester on Friday night.
Destiny Fitzgerald led the Bears with 12 points and seven rebounds.
The Jumbos play at WPI next Wednesday at 7 p.m. and Bridgewater will travel to Johnson and Wales on the same day.
