Men's Squash Loses to Bowdoin in CSA Team Championships Conroy Cup Third Place Match

Imran Trehan came back from down a game to win in four at #8

NORTH ANDOVER - Tufts University Men's Squash finished its team competition for the 2016-17 season with a 6-3 loss to Bowdoin College in the third-place match of the Conroy Cup at the College Squash Association (CSA) Team Championships Sunday morning at the Brooks School.

The Jumbos finish with a 14-10 mark, while Bowoin concludes its team season at 6-15. Both squads will send players to the CSA Individual Championships at Dartmouth College starting March 3.

Both Tufts and Bowdoin won opening-round matches at this weekend's Conroy Cup, but fell in the semi-finals. That left them to play for third place this morning. The match was also for the 27th and 28th final CSA national rankings. With the win Bowdoin finishes at #27 while Tufts takes #28. That was the ranking both teams had entering the tournament.

The teams were meeting for the first time since January 2014 and staged a competitive match. Two contests went five games while another two finished in four.

Bowdoin's Ian Squiers took a back-and-forth, five-game #1 match over Tufts' Alan Litman. Scores were 11-5, 7-11, 11-7, 8-11, 11-8. The Polar Bears also captured the other match that went five games in the sixth slot. Bowdoin's Tyler Shonrock led 2-0 before Tufts' Aidan Porges came back to tie the score at 2-2. Shonrock won out 11-9, 11-7, 7-11, 12-14, 11-7.

The teams split the two four-game matches. At #3, Bowdoin's Benjamin Bristol won 11-7, 8-11, 11-4, 11-6 over Jumbo Brett Raskopf. The eight match went to Tufts' Imran Trehan who came back from down one to defeat Arjun Dravid 9-11, 11-1, 11-6, 11-5.

Tufts won two hard-fought three-game matches at #2 and #9, respectively. Raghav Kumar won 11-7, 11-4, 12-10, and Amun Sahrawat won 11-9, 11-9, 11-8, respectively.

Bowdoin cruised to victories with Sebastian Kim at #4 (5,7,6), George Cooley at #5 (5,8,7) and Drew Clark at #7 (2,5,4).
