AMHERST, Mass. – The ninth seeded Tufts men's squash team fell to eighth seeded Wesleyan, 7-2, in the opening round of the NESCAC Championship on Friday evening. The Jumbos picked up wins in the fourth and the ninth positions against the Cardinals.
The Jumbos, 11-7, drop down to the consolation bracket and will take on tenth seeded Hamilton at 10:30 am on Saturday. With the win Wesleyan advances to take on top seeded Trinity at 11 am on Saturday.
Freshman Amun Sahrawat picked up a four game win over Alex Dreyfus in the ninth position, as three of the four games went to extra points, 12-10, 13-11, 6-11, 13-11. The second win came in the fourth position, as Alex Kamisher was forced to retire, giving junior Braden Chiulli the win.
Sophomore Aidan Porges play a hard fought five game match in the fifth position, but fell to Grant Lounsbury, 11-9, 8-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-7. Classmate Brett Raskopf took Zach Roach to five extra points in the first game in the third position, but ended up losing, 16-14, 11-5, 11-8. Junior Sandeep Rishi won the first game in the eighth position, but wasn't able to top Josh Lane, 5-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-5.
Freshman Connor Wind played a close three games with Yahya Ladiwala in the sixth position, but fell, 11-6, 11-8, 12-10. In the first position, sophomore Alan Litman took on Chris Hart, but fell, 11-5, 11-9, 12-10. Freshman Raghav Kumar faced off with David Sneed in the second position, but wasn't able to beat his Cardinal counterpart (11-9, 11-3, 11-9). Sophomore Imran Trehan fell to William Bienstock in the seventh position, 11-8, 11-6, 11-9.
The Jumbos take on Hamilton in the consolation bracket of tournament play with a match at Smith starting at 10:30 am on Saturday.
