Busy Maine Weekend Starts With Setback to No. 20 Bates for No. 28 Men's Squash

Junior Brett Raskopf won in the third position for the Jumbos.

LEWISTON, Maine – Junior co-captain Brett Raskopf won in the third position, but it wasn't enough as the No. 20 Bates men's squash team topped No. 27 Tufts, 8-1, on Friday evening.  The match was the first of a three-match streak the Jumbos are playing in Maine this weekend. 

With the loss the Jumbos fall to 6-6 on the season.  Bates is now 8-2 after the win. 

Raskopf won the first game in the third position against Bates' Omar Attia.  Attia was able to take the second game before Raskopf came back and won the third and then the fourth in extra points (11-9, 6-11, 11-8, 12-10). 

Junior Cameron Ewan played a close match in the fifth position for the Jumbos, winning the first game, but then falling in the next three with Anirudh Nambiar.  In the ninth position, freshman Aman Navani took his Bates opponent to extra points I the first game, but wasn't able to earn the win falling 12-10, 11-1, 11-3.  Sophomore Raghav Kumar also took a game to extra points, taking on Mahmoud Yousry in the first position, but not able to sneak out a win (11-5, 11-6, 12-10).  

In the second spot, junior Alan Litman fell to Graham Bonnell, 11-4, 11-6, 11-4.  Taking the courts in the fourth position, sophomore Connor Wind was bested by McLeod Abbott, 11-6, 11-9, 11-7.  Junior co-captain Aidan Porges was topped by Coley Cannon in the sixth position, 11-5, 11-6, 11-3.  Freshman Daniel Hutt faced off with Garon Rothenberg in the seventh position, but was beaten, 11-7, 11-3, 11-4.  Rounding out the Jumbos lineup was freshman Salik Awan in the eighth position, who took on Benni McComish but wasn't able to secure the win, 11-7, 11-5, 11-3. 

The Jumbos are back in action on Saturday with a trip to No. 28 Bowdoin for an 11 am start time.  Bates plays again on Saturday when they host No. 18 Franklin and Marshall at 11 am and No. 13 Brown at 4 pm.
