WATERVILLE, Maine – The No. 27 Tufts men's squash team rounded out a weekend up in Maine with a 9-0 loss at No. 24 Colby on Sunday afternoon. The Jumbos took on No. 20 Bates on Friday and No. 28 Bowdoin on Saturday.
The loss puts the Jumbos at 6-8 this season. Colby is now 7-7 after the win.
Freshman Daniel Hutt played one of the closest matches of the day in the seventh position. He fell in the first game to Andrew Swapp, but was able to pick up an 11-8 win in the second game. After dropping the third game, he once again came back to win the fourth game, 11-6. Unfortunately, Swapp won the fifth game, 11-6.
Junior Cameron Ewan played a close one with Chase Holding in the fifth position. After dropping the first two games, Ewan won the third in extra points, 13-11. But, he wasn't able to complete the comeback, falling in four games, 11-9, 11-8, 11-13, 11-7. In the sixth position junior co-captain Aidan Porges also won a game, but wasn't able to top Jason Brodo. Taking the courts in the ninth position, freshman Aman Navani won the first game with Charlie Beauregard, but his Mule counterpart won the next three for the win.
In the first position sophomore Raghav Kumar battled William McBrian, but fell 11-7, 11-3, 11-7. Junior Alan Litman played two close games in the second position, including one going to extra points, but he wasn't able to beat Benjamin Kwass. Junior co-captain Brett Raskopf took on Elliot Gross in the third position, but was bested 11-7, 11-0, 11-7.
Freshman Walker Wind faced off with Alexander Kurtin in the fourth position, falling in three games, 11-7, 11-9, 11-5. Rounding out the Jumbos lineup was freshman Salik Awan who took on Matthew Epstein in the ninth position, but fell 11-2, 11-2, 11-4.
Both the Jumbos and Colby will be back in action on Friday when they head to Hamilton for the NESCAC Championship Friday through Sunday.
