MIT Scores 8-1 Men's Squash Victory Over Jumbos Wednesday Night

Will Dewire won for the fourth time early in the 2018-19 season

CAMBRIDGE - The 22nd-ranked MIT men's squash team had a strong performance on Wednesday night in defeating #23 Tufts University by an 8-1 score at home.

Seven of MIT's wins came in three games as the Engineers improved to a 7-3 record. The Jumbos, whose lone victory came from freshman Will Dewire, dropped to 2-4.

Dewire improved to a 4-2 record in his debut season for the Jumbos with a four-game win against MIT's Brad Levin in the fifth match tonight. The Jumbo rookie built a 2-0 lead with 11-7 and 13-11 victories before Levin closed the margin to 2-1 with an 11-6 score in the third. Dewire secured the win in the fourth game (11-8).

Senior co-captain Brett Raskopf played a competitive eighth match for the Jumbos, losing in five games. He was up 2-0 after winning the first two games 11-9 and 11-5. However, MIT's Neel Das stormed back with 13-11, 11-5, 11-7 victories to take the match.

Jumbo senior Alan Litman lost a pair of 11-9 games to start his #3 match before falling 11-3 in the third.

MIT's Aman Sanger had the most thorough victory of the evening with an 11-5, 11-1, 11-4 score at #2. The #1 match saw Engineer Joe O'Connor win 11-3, 11-3, 11-6 against Jumbo junior Raghav Kumar.

Tufts will close its first semester of action with a match at 26th-ranked Bowdoin on Saturday. MIT is off until January 13 when they host Connecticut College.
