HARTFORD, Conn. – In a semifinal match of the Conroy Cup at the College Squash Association Team Nationals the No. 28 Tufts men's squash team fell to No. 25 Hobart, 6-3, on Saturday morning.
The Jumbos will play in the third place match tomorrow against Haverford at Wesleyan at 10:30 am. The setback today moves the Jumbos record to 9-12 this season.
Sophomore Connor Wind won a duel with Matthew Franz in the sevent position for the Jumbos. Wind won the first and second games, but Frantz took the third in extra points and then the fourth. Wind won the deciding fifth game, 11-6, for the 11-5, 11-4, 10-12, 3-11, 11-6 win. Freshman Daniel Hutt needed just three games in the eighth position to pick up a win over Cameron Adams (11-6, 11-7, 11-7). The last Jumbo win came from Amun Sahrawat in the ninth position, as the sophomore fell in the first game but came back to beat Fred Maynor, 5-11, 11-3, 11-7, 11-8.
Junior Alan Litman won the first game in the second position, but wasn't able to keep it up falling in four games to Quinn Udy, 6-11, 11-9, 11-2, 12-10. In the fourth position junior Cameron Ewan won the first game, but also lost in four games. But, two of those games went to extra points, as Ewan fell 8-11, 12-10, 11-8, 12-10. Junior co-captain Aidan Porges battled Jack Shannon in the fifth position. Shannon won the first game, but Porges came back and won the second in extra points, 12-10. The third game then took 34 points to decide a winner, as Shannon won that 18-16. The fourth and deciding game also went to extra points, and Shannon picked up the 11-8, 10-12, 18-16, 13-11 win.
Sophomore Raghav Kumar took on Josh Oakley in the first position, but wasn't able to pull out a win, falling, 11-6, 11-3, 11-6. In the third position junior co-captain Brett Raskopf fell to Terrance Rose, 11-4, 11-4, 11-5. Rounding out the Jumbos lineup was freshman Salik Awan in the sixth position, but he was bested by Ilyas Khan, 11-5, 11-5, 11-5.
The Jumbos will face off with Haverford tomorrow in the third place match. Haverford lost to Bowdoin on Saturday. The Jumbos took on Haverford in January of this year, and won, 7-2.
